He’s been the talk of the nation ever since ruffling the feathers of ex-Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in a warts and all interview. It’s JOE.ie’s own renegade maverick Barry Lenihan.
Bertie Ahern is back in the news again. Many thought we had just about enough of the man most people deem responsible for putting our country in the rotten state it’s currently in, until of course, his latest interview revealed that as far as Bertie is concerned, it’s all somebody else’s fault.
So, who was this modern day David Frost asking all the hard questions of our ex-Taoiseach? Vincent Browne, perhaps? Miriam O’Callaghan, maybe? Dare we say it, Ryan Tubridy? No, no, it was none of those, but current DCU student and the mild-mannered host of the Rugby World Cup podcast on JOE.ie, Barry Lenihan.
We caught up with Barry for an insight into the man behind the face that used to command so much taxpayer’s money on make-up and why, over three years after leaving office, Bertie Ahern still can’t accept responsibility for the mess he’s made.
“He was a very friendly man as us usual, he maintained his friendliness and the personality that he had when he was king of the elections,” said Barry.
“To be honest, I didn’t realise the sheer veracity of what he was saying until I listened back to it. Even I’m surprised at some of the reaction to what he did say.
"That said I'm looking forward to reaping the benefits of all the female attention I'm going to receive from this, eligible bachelor and all that I am. For anyone interested, you can usually find me in 21 on a Monday night.
“It just shows that everybody loves a good old Bertie story.”
That they do Barry, especially if it involves taking him down a peg or coming out of the closet in a ridiculous News of the World advert.
Something tells us we haven't heard the last of 'ole Bertie just yet.
