The Irish Independent reports that the Fassbender has said Greg Louganis, an Olympic diver, has been his inspiration for his latest role. We should probably mention that his latest role involves playing a robot, so we doubt Louganis would be too pleased with this comparison.
Yes, the part-Irish actor will play the part of David, an android, in Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien prequel called Prometheus. Fassbender has said that he was also inspired by David Bowie in The Man Who Fell to Earth and that epic moment in the 1988 Olympics when Louganis banged his head against the diving board. Eh…okay…
He has said that his new character is “childlike” and that he based his character’s movements on Louganis’ “weird walk” because it always made him laugh. Clearly Michael Fassbender is easily amused.
Actually, he wanted to make the android character perform a robot dance in the film, but decided against suggesting it to Ridley. Yeah…you already missed out on an Oscar before Fassbender, being known for doing the robot in a big film probably won’t help your chances next year…
