Newcastle appoint Alan Pardew as manager

Newcastle have appointed Alan Pardew as their new manager.

One of the worst kept secrets in football was confirmed today at a press conference as the Magpies unveiled the former Southampton boss as their new man in charge.

Newcastle sacked Chris Hughton last Monday and didn’t delay in appointing a new manager.

Magpies fans have strongly criticised the appointment of Pardew who has been out of work since August.

Martin Jol had become a potential candidate for the job after he quit Ajax during the week but Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has opted for the unpopular Pardew.

He has signed a five-year contract and becomes the club's sixth manager in three years.
