A very familiar face is on his way to the Showgrounds while Celtic will play Cliftonville.

It’s only June 24 but we are already getting some Champions League news. This morning the lads at Uefa did the draw for the opening rounds and with Irish champs Sligo Rovers, and Celtic, in the pot, we were very interested indeed.

Sligo have been drawn against Norwegian champs Molde, a team managed, at least at the moment, by Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Scottish champs Celtic will be headed this way too as they will play Cliftonville from the Irish League in the second qualifying round, with the first leg scheduled for Celtic Park on July 16/17, with the return leg a week later.

The Europa League draw, featuring Drogheda, Derry City and St Pats will take place at 12 and we’ll update the story with the details when the draw is made.

UPDATE:

And, as promised, here’s the Europa League draw…

First Round

Zalgiris of Lithunia versus St. Patrick’s Athletic (with the winners playing FK Teteks or FC Pyunik)

Drogheda United versus Malmo FF (with the winners playing Hibs)

Second Round

Derry City versus Trabzonspor
