Never take your Olympic medal into the shower

We have never won an Olympic medal and, based on the above results, it might require a sex change for us to even compete so we are unlikely to ever experience the joy of winning one either.

Brazilian judoka Felipe Kitadai - as you can see above - was very, very happy to win bronze in the under 60kg division on Saturday. In fact, he was so happy, he refused to take his medal off. The 23-year-old even wore it in the shower, a decision that was almost very costly.

Somehow, Kitadai contrived to drop the medal in the shower – pesky slippery hands is our guess – and he broke it. Well, a small part near the top where the ribbon goes was broken anyway.

Kitadai didn’t notice the damage until later when he was sleeping with the medal. See, we told you he was very happy with it.

Once he noticed the breakage, Kitadai contacted Olympic officials who were, luckily, able to replace his medal with a new one. We bet he is a bit more careful with his replacement.

Aussie Miracle ends badly

You are trailing by three with seconds to go in basketball so you heave up a full-court shot in hope more than anything else. But Australian Belinda Snell nailed this enormous three-pointer, sending their game with France into overtime in London.

Sadly for the Opals it wasn’t enough as France won the OT and one of the favourites for the women’s basketball crown are now in a battle to make the medal rounds. Still, what a shot.

There was quite a lot of star power at the Opening Ceremony on Friday night. From a Beatle to Dizzee Rascal, it looked like it would have been a pricey party to throw. But another performer on the night, Emile Sande, has revealed just how much the artists were paid to appear.

"I got paid £1 for my work,” she told the London Evening Standard. “It's there in print and I know because I signed the contract myself. Mind you, I haven't received anything yet! When I do, though, that £1 will be truly special.”

What a bargain!
