In an astonishing move even by Serbian standards, their Football Association has taken to YouTube suggesting Danny Rose is fabricating racist claims.

The U-21 England player was the victim of monkey chants and a melee ensued after the final whistle of the international against Serbia when the Sunderland defender tried to highlight the abuse he was receiving.

The disgraceful scenes have been doing the rounds on social media and there have been widespread claims for FIFA to take some strict action.

The video has been launched on their YouTube channel and conveniently fails to show the fracas after the final whistle and suggests that there was in fact no racist chanting directed towards the young defender.

A statement from the Serbian FA has accused Rose of behaving in an “inappropriate, unsportsmanlike and vulgar manner”.

Sunderland manager has said that he is unsure of Rose’s state of mind and will need to speak to the player to see if he is ready for Sunday’s derby with Newcastle.

“You are hoping that young players who might not have experienced things like that there before can respond positively,” he is quoted as saying in The Irish Examiner.

We await FIFA’s response with interest.
