Owen Hargreaves set to be released by Manchester United

Owen Hargreaves will be released on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to reports in the Sunday Mirror.

The Canadian born English international signed for Manchester United in 2007 for €20 million, but has suffered with injuries - only playing 26 league games in three years.

Hargreaves earns in or around €95,000 and has cost the Old Trafford club over €1.5 million per appearance.

The 29-year-old's only start of the season came against West Brom in October, but it was to only last five minutes as he tore his hamstring and was replaced by Bebe.

Hargreaves has only six months left on his current contract.
