Oxford City goalkeeper injures himself after falling out of tree while trying to save a cat

Safe to say he wasn’t feline so good afterwards.

Safe to say he wasn’t feline so good afterwards.

Every now and then you’ll come upon a list of the strangest injuries suffered by footballers, from David James suffering a thumb injury from playing computer games for too long to Darius Vassell using an electric drill in an attempt to address a blister from under his toe nail. No, really.

Now, you can add Oxford City ‘keeper Victor Francoz to that rather undistinguished list after he fell out a tree recently while saving a cat.

One might think that Oxford manager Mike Ford would have some sympathy for his ‘keeper after he hurt himself while undertaking an incredibly selfless and noble act, but one would be mistaken as Ford is not at all happy with the temporary loss of his French ‘keeper, particularly as his team are currently mired in a relegation battle in the Skrill North division.

“It’s ridiculous,” Ford is quoted as saying in The Oxford Mail.

“I’ve not got any sympathy for him at all because he’s done it to himself. He fell out of a tree when he was trying to get a cat.

“He’s got a deep cut and unfortunately now we don’t have Victor because he’s gone back to France for a couple of weeks to have treatment.

“You just don’t get professional players climbing trees.”

Ford didn’t indicate whether the club would be undertaking a root and branch review of exactly what went wrong, but it does appear as if Francoz’s reactions weren’t sufficiently cat-like to rescue himself when things went awry.

Francoz will only be out of the team for a couple of weeks, but for meow, there is no glove lost between him and his manager and Ford will have to look for another alternative, who, we hope for his sake, is hopefully only a whisker away.
