Paul Gascoigne escapes jail after drunk driving charge

Troubled former English football star Paul Gascoigne has been handed an eight-week jail term, suspended for a year, after appearing at Newcastle Magistrates Court today.

The English World Cup legend was arrested on October 8 and found to be four times over the legal alcohol limit by police officers. Gascoigne, or 'Gazza' as he is known to fans was found to have 142mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath (the limit being 35mg), after being tested at 2.45pm. The star admitted the charge at an October hearing.
