Pearl Jam to release new album this year

Rock band Pearl Jam are due to release the follow up album to Backspacer this year.

Seattle band Pearl Jam are to release their first album since 2009’s Backspacer according to Rolling Stone. Guitarist Mike McCready spoke to the magazine saying they are “working on demos right now and we’re going to be recording soon.” When asked for a time frame he said, “this year, for sure.”

McCready said that so far the band has seven songs that are “relatively completed” but that they have “an additional 15 ready to go aside any that Eddie (Vedder) brings in.”

Pearl Jam have been touring for the past few years since the release of Backspacer including a performance in Ireland in June 2010. Last year the band played numerous dates in the UK and Europe, but failed to come to our shores.

McCready expressed what is to be expected from the new album; “I think there's a little bit more experimental stuff going on. There's a Pink Floyd vibe to some of it, there's a punk rock edge to other stuff.” The band will team up again with producer Brendan O’Brien to make the album, this being the fifth time.

Pearl Jam formed in Seattle, Washington back in 1990 and are made up of Eddie Vedder (vocals), Stone Gossard (guitar), Mike McCready (guitar), Jeff Ament (bass) and Matt Cameron (drums).
