Everyone’s favourite Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield has finally received his award from the Lord Mayor of Dublin (well, kind of).

Chris Hadfield left for the International Space Station on December 19, last year and he returned after a five-month stint doing experiments in space just the other week.

When he left earth back in December, no one knew that he’d be “the most social media savvy astronaut ever to leave Earth” as Forbes put it, but we’re certainly glad he was.

A quick Twitter search for Commander Hadfield’s name will bring up plenty of beautiful pictures of earth as seen from space, and Ireland crops up on more than one occasion.

Commander Hadfield was also the first person to Tweet as Gaeilge from space, so he’s basically Irish, right?

Well all his hard work and his contribution to Dublin and its citizens has been recognised by Dublin Lord Mayor Mr Naoise Ó Muirí who awarded Hadfield the 2013 Lord Mayor’s Award.

Sadly, Chris is back in Canada working away on space stuff (we assume) so his daughter and Trinity College student Kristen was there to accept the award on behalf of her seriously cool dad.

Fair play to you, Chris…
