Hijacking the Wikipedia page of a participant is almost obligatory after a major sporting event and last night Gael Clichy was the victim of some devious yet highly amusing internet pranksters.
Manchester City were at the end of the one of the biggest shocks in FA Cup Final history last night when Ben Watson secured a famous victory for Wigan with a last-minute winner but while Watson made the headlines, it was Callum McManaman who was the star man on the day and a deserving winner of the man of the match award.
McManaman tormented the City defence all day long at Wembley, forcing the dismissal of Pablo Zabaleta on two bookable offences, but it was Gael Clichy who was the main victim of his mazy runs and who ended up having a disastrous day at the office trying to cope with the Wigan speedster.
If Clichy was looking for sympathy last night his Wikipedia page was not the place to go as some pranksters had removed ‘left back’ from the playing position category on his bio and replaced it with, well, you’ll see below…
The page has since been returned to normal, of course, but for a while it was just another bad turn on what was a bad day all around for the French left back, who will at least have taken some joy from seeing the back of McManaman at the final whistle.
