Pic: LA Galaxy’s campaign to get Robbie Keane on the MLS All-Star team is pretty funny

They never mentioned that it was his boyhood dream to play in the 2014 MLS All-Star game… probably because that joke has been used more than enough times already.

They never mentioned that it was his boyhood dream to play in the 2014 MLS All-Star game… probably because that joke has been used more than enough times already.

Our Robbie is one of eight Galaxy players amongst a total of 152 from the MLS who have been nominated for the All-Star Fan XI, with fans able to cast their vote and determine the 11 players to make up a team consisting of one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards.

Keane made the cut last year but wasn’t able to participate due to injury, but LA Galaxy have got firmly behind the campaign to see Robbie selected this time around, tweeting out a mocked up poster of Robbie sporting a boy band look alongside a number of (not very serious) reasons why he should earn MLS fans’ vote. Even Morrissey gets a mention.

Heaven knows an MLS All-Star team would be miserable without Keane in it, but even if the fans don’t vote him in he still has a chance of making the cut; a total of 32 players are named to the All-Star team each year due to the league’s collective bargaining agreement and the team that will start against Bayern Munich on August 6 will be decided by Coach Caleb Porter.

If you’d like to give Robbie a push in the right direction, you can vote on the MLS website here.
