Pic: The stats from last night’s Chelsea/West Ham game are pretty amazing

Chelsea were very much on top, but they couldn't get a goal, a fact that delighted Big Sam in his post game press conference.

Chelsea were very much on top, but they couldn’t get a goal, a fact that delighted Big Sam in his post game press conference.

For a 0-0, last night’s game between Chelsea and West Ham provided us with lots of storylines. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was fuming after the game, because of West Ham’s style of play. “This is not the best league in the world. This is football from the nineteenth century.

“Ten defenders in the box, defenders not putting a foot outside the box. Very basic. But I’m nobody to criticise. They are happy.

“It’s very difficult to play a football match where only one team wants to play. Very difficult. A match is about two teams playing. This match was only one team playing, and another team not.”

Sam Allardyce, of course, was delighted with the vital point, and he was even more delighted when he heard Jose was unhappy.

“I don’t give a s***e, to be honest. I love to see Chelsea players moaning at the referee, trying to intimidate him, Jose jumping up and down in his technical area. It’s great to see.

“He can’t take it can he. He can’t take it because we’ve out-tacticed him, out-witted him. He just can’t cope. He can tell me all he wants.”

We can already imagine t-shirts with ‘Out-tacticed’ written on them being for sale outside Upton Park at the weekend.

Anyway, in case you missed the match itself this snapshot of the stats, compiled by the excellent WhoScored, illustrates just how on top Chelsea were in the game.

Still, goals win games, not stats.
