Fair play to Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse. It’s not everyday a Premier League star puts on a spread at his own house for supporters.

We have heard heart-warming stories of the Senegalese striker in the past such as the time he turned up unannounced at the home of a four-year old Toon fan who sent him a “Welcome to Newcastle” card upon his arrival in the North East.

Well he has been at it again, this time putting on a spread for some of the Toon fairthful. Given the fact they haven’t set the world alight this season – without a goal in two games or even a shot on target against West Ham at the weekend – at least they can be happier with one of their players’ performances off the pitch.

As well serving up grub and giving a guided tour of his home to a select band of supporters, Cisse presented them with signed Toon shirts, held a pool competition, played FIFA and even passed on a few shooting tips as his guests enjoyed a kickabout in his back garden.

“I wanted to spend more time with my fans,” he told The Newcastle Chronicle.

“They are very important to me. I have missed them over the summer so I wanted to see them again at the start of the season. It is a gift for them at the start of the season.”

The star who revealed that he spends a lot of time watching cartoons and playing the Playstation to unwind after games said he has been taken aback by how much the supporters have taken to him since he signed for the Magpies from Freiburg last year.

“When I first came here I didn’t realise so many kids and so many fans would feel the way they do about me. Now my duty is to make them happy for as long as I can do it.”

Just an all-round good guy.
