Pics: Real Madrid’s plans for the new Bernabeu stadium look pretty slick

Whatever Barcelona can do…

Whatever Barcelona can do…

Spanish rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona love to get one over another on and off the pitch, so it should come as little surprise that shortly after Barcelona revealed their plans to upgrade the iconic Nou Camp, Real Madrid have released plans of their own for a £330 million redesign of the Bernabeu stadium. And it looks very cool indeed.

It isn’t very fair of us to put it like that, of course, because an awful lot of planning goes into a redesign of this scale and it could be that it just so happened that both clubs were ready to reveal their plans at pretty much the same time.

In any case, German architects GMP’s design won the international tender and work will begin at the end of the season, with the project due to be completed by 2017. The new-look Bernabeu will include a retractable roof, but it is not yet known whether or not the 85,454 capacity will be affected.

They’re not bad digs we’ll give them that.
