Picture: One local GAA club has a big supporter in Rio…really big

It seems there's a big fan of Westmeath club GAA in Rio, in fact they don't come much bigger than this man

It seems there’s a big fan of Westmeath club GAA in Rio, in fact they don’t come much bigger than this man

Rosemount GAA club of Westmeath might not be a familiar name to everyone out there, but it might soon be, given the picture that we had sent into us from as far afield as Rio this week.

It seems that none other than the big man himself, Cristo Redentor(Christ the Redeemer) who overlooks the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro has given his blessing, if you’ll pardon the pun, to the Rosemount lads, and was even spotted sporting their jersey.

Padraig Fox was the man responsible for presenting the shirt to the latest signing, and we’ve been assured that it’s purely a business trip, Padriag is suffering through the whole experience on the beaches of Brazil for the growth of the game.

If they can garner enough interest, who knows, they might even be able to start Rio-semount out there.

Hat-tip to Stephen Darcy for sending us the pic
