Porsche reveals new Cayman R

Porsche has announced a faster, lighter Cayman R that can get to 62mph in five seconds, two-tenths of a second faster than the Cayman S.

On sale from February next year, priced from £51,731, the mid-engined coupé made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show yesterday.

The new two-seater Cayman R, that’s ‘R’ for racing, puts a 330 horsepower, specially-tuned 3.4-litre flat-six into a 1,295 kg car.

Porsche engineers aimed to improve the Cayman’s performance and dynamics through a strict weight reduction regime. Weighing just 1,295 kg, the power-to-weight ratio of the Cayman R is just 3.9 kg/hp.

The new Porsche Cayman R will go on sale in March 2011. Canadian pricing will be announced closer to the model’s on-sale date.
