Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are now the only teams that can claim the final Champions League spot after both teams recorded home victories in the Premier League this afternoon.

Tottenham are in pole position, one point ahead of City in fourth place and can guarantee Champions League football for next season if they defeat City at the City of Manchester stadium on Wednesday evening.

A Tom Huddlestone goal in the 38th minute was enough to earn victory for Harry Redknapp’s side over Bolton at White Hart Lane. The midfielder powered home a stunning shot from the edge of the area from a Benoit Assou-Ekotto pass.

At the City of Manchester stadium, the home side came from behind to defeat Aston Villa and end the Champions League ambitions of Martin O’Neill’s men.

John Carew put Villa in front early on with an effort that seemed to squirm under the body of emergency loan signing Martin Fulop, but two goals in three minutes before half time put City back in the driving seat.

Carlos Tevez blasted home from the spot after Stephen Warnock brought down Adam Johnson in the area after 42 minutes and Johnson was involved again a minute later, squaring for Adebayor to put City in the lead.

Craig Bellamy wrapped up the points in the dying minutes with a fine shot to the top corner after being released by Shaun Wright-Phillips.
