Rangers suspend striker after hoax call from Celtic fan

Rangers have suspended their striker Francisco Sandaza pending an investigation after his hoax call earlier in the week.

Not surprisingly, the Scottish club has acted quickly after the Spanish striker admitted to joining the club for the money and indicating he would jump at the opportunity to leave the club when he was duped by a hoax call from a Celtic fan.

We brought you the conversation between Sandaza and the Celtic supporter earlier this week where the was under the impression he was speaking to an MLS agent from America. It was in fact a Glasgow taxi-driver who happens to be a die-hard Celtic supporter.

Rangers released a statement today saying that Sandaza will not return to the club until an investigation has been carried out.

“The club, Francisco and his agent have had discussions and manager Ally McCoist also spoke with the player, who did not take part in today's training session.”

“Rangers regard this is an extremely serious issue but there will be no further comment until the inquiry, which could take a week, has been completed.”

Manager Ally McCoist admitted he had no idea what the future holds for Sandaza and said he will have to await the results of the investigation.

That could be one costly phone call for the Spaniard.
