Rubberbandits join the RTE cocaine debate

The Rubberbandits appeared on Matt Cooper's The Last Word on Monday night, and added their surreal take on the RTÉ cocaine debate.

The Rubberbandits have become regular visitors to RTÉ's Montrose campus in Dublin of late, appearing each week on RTÉ TWO's Republic of Telly. Their hit single 'Horse Outside' was first shown on the late night comedy show.

The Limerick duo of Blindboy Boat Club and Mr Chrome, currently at number two in the Irish singles chart, were guests on Today FM, when Matt Cooper asked if they'd witnessed the use of cocaine at the state broadcaster.

"They're beyond cocaine. They've taken to pouring hot water over Ryan Tubridy's chest," Blindboy said. "Within five minutes of being there you see people pouring kettles of hot water over themselves."

When questioned by The Irish Times' Fintan O'Toole, a fan of the lads, about whether they're the idiot bastard children of Daniel O'Donnell, Mr Chrome responded that they were "waiting for the results from Jeremy Kyle but praying that Willie [O'Dea] is our father".

They agreed with O'Toole that they were the antithesis of the Celtic Tiger. "We got hungry, so we ate the tiger and it tasted of salty dollar bills," Mr Chrome said.

Last Friday night they entered the mainstream with an appearance on The Late Late Show, giving them the opportunity to rub shoulders with Mary Byrne and Paul Galvin.
