San Francisco have already agreed a trade for Alex Smith

According to reports, the San Francisco 49ers have already tied up a deal which will see quarterback Alex Smith on the move

Although their Super Bowl loss must still be fresh in their minds, the San Francisco 49ers have wasted no time in reshuflling their pack for next year's challenge.

While it won't come as a huge surprise given Alex Smith has definitely been replaced by Colin Kaepernick as starter, it seems that his trade away from San Francisco has been completed already, but can't be announced until next month.

The league year begins in March, and as Jason LaCanfora, NFL insider tweeted, the deal has been wrapped up but they can't announce what team will be picking up Alex Smith.

Having had a good first year under Jim Harbaugh, Alex Smith was played out of the starting spot by Kaepernick after he picked up an injury, but is still an efficient and effective quarterback in the right set up.

He's a decent game manager, but lacks the ability to throw a deep ball, so any teams that need someone under centre who can control the offence with a calm hand would make sense, which is why LaCanfora puts the Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars on the radar for Smith.

However, Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell has stated that the trade is not with them, so the Chiefs may be his destination.

He should also have a point to prove having lost his position when he was off the field, so he might be a decent pick up for whoever ends up getting him next month.
