A new study form Sweden claims that the myth ‘women are better than men at multitasking’ is completely wrong and men are actually better at it than women.
Scientists from the Stockholm University in Sweden have published a study that compared both men and women at multitasking and the results are a bit of a surprise.
Apparently, men are better than women at preforming several different tasks at once because the ability to do so is related to our spatial ability. A women’s spatial ability, however, is linked to her menstrual phase, so she’s better at multitasking at different times of the month.
‘Previous studies have shown that women’s spatial skills vary across the menstrual cycle with high capacity around menstruation and much lower around ovulation, when oestrogen levels are high,’ Timo Maentylae, a psychology professor at Stockholm University, said.
The study consisted of 160 men and women aged between 20 and 43 years of age and their task was to keep track of three different clocks while looking at a list of names on a computer screen. They had to click on any name that was repeated on the list while also keeping track of the three different clocks that were all moving at different speeds.
Contrary to the old myth, the men did better than the women.
