The sea lion, weighing over half a ton, came out of the sea at Santa Catarina on Saturday, crossed the sand and landed in the middle of Atlantic Avenue, one of the busiest streets in the city.
The street was closed for more than 20 minutes and fire-fighters were called to the scene to help rescue the animal that seemed happy to be having a look around the bright lights of the city.
Just under two hours after leaving the sea, the sea lion returned to more familiar territory after having his day out in the big shmoke.
