Sepp Blatter apologises to gays

Bumbling FIFA President Sepp Blatter has apologised for recent comments saying that ‘homosexuals should refrain from sexual activity’ if they go to the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

Blatter made the comments earlier this week when asked about how Qatar’s rules governing homosexuality would affect gay or lesbian fans attending the tournament in the country in twelve years time.

It was not the first time that the controversial president has got in trouble for a loose tongue, as he famously attracted the ire of fans in this country in the wake of ‘Henrygate’ in 2009 when ridiculing a suggestion that Ireland might be included in the 2010 World Cup as a 33rd team.

Blatter’s comments about gay fans (see video below), which were accompanied by some patronising laughter from the president and his sycophantic cronies, provoked outrage amongst gay rights groups, some of whom demanded his resignation.

Blatter has attempted to quell the controversy, however, saying:  "It was not my intention and never will be my intention to go into any discrimination.

"If somebody feels hurt, then I regret [it] and present apologies."
