Sheedy named as Manager of the Year

Former Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy has been named Philips Sports Manager of the Year following the Premier County’s All-Ireland success in September.

Sheedy guided Tipp to their first Liam McCarthy triumph since 2001 and stopped Kilkenny from completing a memorable five All-Ireland titles in a row in the process.

After losing to Kilkenny in the 2009 All-Ireland decider, Tipperary got off to a torrid start in the 2010 Munster championship, going down to a heavy defeat to Cork in the first round, but recovered brilliantly to pip the Cats on the first Sunday in September.

Sheedy stepped down in the aftermath of the All-Ireland success after three years in charge which yielded two Munster titles, a National League title as well as this year’s All-Ireland success.

He has since been replaced by former Tipp minor manager Declan Ryan, who was a member of the All-Ireland winning Tipperary squads of 1989, 1991 and 2001.
