Shteve McLaren leaves FC Twente for the second time

Former England boss Steve McLaren has left Dutch side FC Twente after a disappointing second stint in charge of the Eredivisie club, having failed to win a league game in 2013.

Following Saturday’s defeat to Heerenveen, the club are now six points adrift of table-toppers PSV and McLaren has said he has taken the decision as he does not feel supported in his role.

“You talk about the support and the backing the players need, we need it as trainers, we need it as managers, we need it as staff,” he told Sky Sports.

“I sought those assurances and I felt that they weren't forthcoming, in the fact of not just for now, but also for the future, trying to build Twente,” he added.

McLaren led Twente to the title in 2010, but following a return in January 2012, has struggled to match his previous achievements.

His recent managerial record is a little rocky to say the least, with an ill-fated seven month reign as manager of Bundesliga side Wolfsburg following on from an even shorter time in charge at the Nottingham Forest, spending just four months at the City Ground.

Shteve will be missed in Holland, for his wonderful take on the Dutch accent if nothing else. Thanks for the memories.
