So Nuri Sahin isn’t the biggest fan of Brendan Rodgers

Nuri Sahin didn’t have the happiest of times on Merseyside and while he is complementary of the club, the same can’t be said about Brendan Rodgers.

The Reds looked like they had pulled off a major coup after getting the Turkish international on a season-long loan from Real Madrid, but he only featured in 12 games in total before the deal was terminated in January.

He has since moved back to his former stomping ground at Dortmund on loan, but has told AS yesterday that he was played out of position at Liverpool and that was the reason the fans did not see him at his best.

“I did not fail at Liverpool,” Sahin insisted. “Brendan Rodgers wanted me to play as a '10'. But I do not play behind the forwards. I spoke with him and asked him why I was playing there. It is not my real position.”

While he is not happy about the way he was treated by the former Swansea boss, he was all positive about the club itself and appreciative of his opportunity to play in the famous jersey.

“The boss could not answer me... Still, I am not sorry about it. To play in the red jersey and be in Anfield is something marvellous. Maybe if I had not gone there I would not have been able to return to Borussia Dortmund. For that, I am happy."

Our favourite line comes at the end of the interview where he is most thankful that he is no longer working with Rodgers, in a line that sounds distinctly Irish

“But I have left Brendan Rodgers, thanks be to God,” he says.

Indeed he has and is concentrating on getting back into the team at Dortmund where he has been used primarily as a substitute. He also states he has a great relationship with Madrid boss Jose Mourinho, despite playing less time in Madrid than he did at Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers is definitely off at least one Christmas card list.
