Sound man Daniel Agger stumps up cash to help the Danish homeless team go the World Cup

Well played Daniel, that's a lovely gesture right there.

Fair play Daniel, that’s a lovely gesture right there.

A few weeks back, you may have heard a story about Zlatan Ibrahimovic – one of JOE’s favourite people on Earth – kindly donating a large sum of his own money to help the Swedish learning disabilities national team to go to the World Cup.

Footballers often get a bad reputation in the public eye but if you look hard enough you’ll find that they make this kind of gesture on a fairly regular basis, with former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger the latest high-profile player to help a worthy cause.

According to Danish website Sporten, the national homeless team were short some 20,000 Danish Krone (approximately €2,700) when trying to fund their trip to the World Cup in Chile next month, but Agger was glad to stump up the cash when approached by Frits Ahlstrøm, one of the homeless team’s representatives.

If you’ve a better grasp of Danish than we have (our grasp of Danish being limited to the mad rush for pastries in the JOE kitchen in the mornings) you can read Ahlstrøm’s quotes here, but after having a quick look on Google Translate, he went on to say that Agger agreed to help out without hesitation and that there is no substitute for class, which Agger had on and off the field.

Well played Daniel, very well played indeed.
