Spanish newspaper ‘footage’ of Costa Concordia sinking looks very like Dundrum flooding

An Irish drag queen discovers a Spanish newspaper has used footage of Dundrum Town Centre flooding in a report on the Italian cruise liner, Costa Concordia, sinking. Confusing, yes. Entertaining, yes. Weird, you bet your ass it is.

One of Spain’s biggest newspaper titles, El Mundo, posted a video report about the cruise disaster on their website. A pretty standard move you might say, but what’s not so run of the mill is using footage of a Dublin shopping centre flooding last October and passing it off as the lower decks flooding.

The massive mistake was discovered by drag queen, Panti, who tweeted about it yesterday evening.

At 43 seconds into the video, the voiceover says: “Meanwhile water begins to flood the lower decks,” while showing the famous pictures of several feet of water pushing against the doors of the Dublin shopping centre.

It’s clear that El Mundo got it royally wrong, but the question is whether or not someone knew the footage was not from the ship before including it.
