Speed to be named new Wales manager

Gary Speed will be unveiled as the new Wales manager tomorrow after agreeing a three-and-a-half year contract.

The former Wales captain will also pick up a £1m bonus if he can qualify for a major finals.

Sheffield United did not stand in the way of their manager agreeing the deal with the Football Association of Wales but it is unclear what compensation they have received for Speed.

The 41-year-old will earn around £200,000 a year in his new role, a significantly less amount than he is currently earning with the struggling Championship side.

Since taking over at Bramall Lane, Speed has endured a torrid time, losing nine of 18 matches in charge, leaving Sheffield United one point and two places above the Championship relegation zone.

One of the front runners to take over from Speed is sacked Newcastle manager Chris Hughton, as well as former Hull City boss Phil Brown.
