Spurs in talks with Birmingham over Robbie Keane

There's been a lot of speculation regarding Robbie Keane's next destination, and now it looks like talks have started... with Birmingham City.

Last month, Harry Redknapp made it clear that he will not come between the Republic of Ireland captain and a new club, should a decent offer arise.

Well, with the January transfer window open, it looks as if at least one suitor has been the first to officially step forward.

Skysports.com claims representitives of the Blues have made an approach and that discussions are now underway.

Speaking on Tuesday, Redknapp reiterated that he would let Keane go, at the same time making it clear that he would rather keep the underplayed International.

"Robbie needs to play. He can play at the top level," 'Arry said.

"A loan wouldn't be an option for Robbie now, it would need to be a permanent move.

He also spoke of midfielder David Bentley. "If they [Keane and Bentley] are happy to stay here then I am happy to keep them but I just get the feeling with those two lads especially that they want to get out and play some football."

Birmingham will probably need to find around €6million if they want to bag their man. Alex McLeish's team will also need to see off any other interested parties, such as Wolves, Newcastle and maybe Sunderland.
