Star Wars are trying to sign the cast from the original movie says Luke Skywalker

Mark Hamill AKA Luke Skywalker confirms the original cast are in talks to return for the new Star Wars movie.

The rumour mills are awash with speculation surrounding the casting of the latest JJ Abrams directed Star Wars. Already it has been said that Harrison Ford will return to play Hans Solo, but neither Disney nor the star himself have confirmed the news, allowing talk to circulate and publicity to build for the project.

Now Mark Hamill, AKA Luke Skywalker, has confirmed to movieweb.com that Disney and Lucas Film are in talks with Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Anthony Daniels (C3PO) and of course, Harrison Ford (Hans Solo). Hamill says they are all willing to come back, but only if they all come back.

Hamill said: “They're talking to us. George Lucas wanted to know whether we'd be interested. He did say that if we didn't want to do it, they wouldn't cast another actor in our parts, they would write us out... I can tell you right away that we haven't signed any contracts. We're in the stage where they want us to go in and meet with Michael Ardnt, who is the writer, and Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm.”

Hamill expressed his desire that the whole gang get back together, saying: “Another thing I'd want to make sure of is are we going to have the whole gang back? Is Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels, everybody that's around from the original (returning)? I want to make sure that everybody's on board here, rather than just one."

Hamill also hopes the movies will remain true to the originals. “I said to George Lucas that I wanted to go back to the way it was, in the sense that ours was much more carefree and lighthearted and humorous... in my opinion, anyway... I hope they find the right balance of CGI with practical effects.”

We hope that they use some effects to make Hamill look as though he hasn't let himself go, really let himself go.
