Stephen Ireland considers international return and move to Liverpool

Aston Villa bit-part player Stephen Ireland could be set for a shock return to international football and a move to Liverpool, according to the English press.

The 24-year-old hasn’t played for Ireland since 2007 after a web of lies were revealed including falsely claiming that his grandmother had died.

“I am seriously thinking of calling Trap in the next few weeks and hopefully I can work my way back into his plans,” Ireland said.

Meanwhile, a switch to Merseyside in January looks likely as Villa boss Gerard Houllier wants to rebuild his side.

“If I can¹t get a move in January then I need to look at the summer and playing for Ireland will at least put me in the shop window,” Ireland said.
