While the FA Cup seemed to offer Everton a genuine chance of silverware this season, Wigan put paid to that with a convincing win at Goodison Park today.
By Declan Whooley
Wigan, so often a Jekyll and Hyde team, put the tie to bed with three goals in three first half minutes against a terribly out-of-sorts home side.
Figuero opened the scoring on the half hour, with goals from McManaman and Jordi Gomez giving the away side what seemed an unlikely win.
This was as bad a performance as David Moyes will have seen all season, with Marouane Fellaini booed when he was substituted after a particularly under-par performance from the Belgian.
Roberto Martinez will be delighted with the win as the club books a date at Wembley in their first ever FA Cup semi-final appearance and will hope it will renew confidence for the remaining Premier League fixtures.
The third goal from Gomez was the pick of the bunch.
