There’s a good bit of fanciful gossip today in the papers, but hey, it’s silly season, so let’s go with it and say that we believe the whole lot of it
As the summer drags on, there are more and more transfer rumours about Luis Suarez, who has been linked with a move away to Real Madrid since he chomped down on Ivanovic’s arm and missed the end of last season.
It seems now however, according to The Sunday Mirror that both Chelsea and Arsenal have picked up the phone to find out what the story is with the Uruguayan. Both clubs have also been mentioned as possible destinations for Rooney, but with Davide Moyes categorically stating that in all categories Wayne Rooney was categorically not for sale, they seem to have moved on to the Liverpool man as their next target.
Daniele De Rossi has been linked with a move to England for several seasons, but it seems that the 29-year-old is now prepared to make the leap. However, he won’t be joining Manchester United, as had been rumoured last year, but it seems that Chelsea is the destination for the Italian.
Chelsea have also been linked with Cavani this weekend, as that transfer saga just drags on and on. According to The Sunday Express, they also fancy getting Hulk, Robert Lewandowski and/or Zlatan Ibrahimovic in, so in other words, they want to buy all the strikers who’ve ever played the game.
Speaking of transfer sagas that refuse to go away, Thiago Alcantara has inched closer to a move to Manchester United according to The Sun and The Star. We stopped caring about that one a few days ago.
Another Thiago, this time the Brazilian Thiago Silva, has apparently stated to colleagues that he wants to move to Barcelona, so they may start upping their pursuit of the centre back. However, they’re also said to be trying to land David Luiz too, as they badly need help in defence.
The Higuain transfer story rumbles on also, but he’s joined back up with Real Madrid for preseason training this weekend in order to be in top shape should his Arsenal move finally go through.
In a move that would make us giddy with excitement just to see one of our man crushes back in the Premier League, there’s talk in the papers today (mainly the Mail on Sunday) that Xabi Alonso could return to Anfield for as little as £10 million.
Every penny would be well spent if he were to return to Liverpool we imagine, but there have also been rumours about him joining up with Mourinho at Chelsea as well, or simply staying in Madrid where he’s been doing alright.
In other news, Jermain Defoe could be headed to Stoke to join up with Mark Hughes, while Everton are hopeful of wrapping up the transfer of Arouna Kone this week from Wigan, and they’ll use that money to buy Liverpool’s Jay Spearing. Peter Odemwingie has been told he has to report back to West Brom for training this week, while Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo is expected to join Manchester City within a few days.
