Terry Pratchett joins staff at Trinity College Dublin
Fantasy novelist Terry Pratchett has been added to the academic staff of Trinity College University in Dublin.
Pratchettâ€™s first lecture will take place on Thursday 4 November at 7 pm and has been entitled â€˜The importance of being absolutely amazed about everythingâ€™.
â€œProfessor Sir Terry Pratchett brings a new depth of creative genius to our cohort of distinguished international adjuncts in our School of English,â€ commented Provost John Hegarty.
â€œHis contribution to the student experience and to the wider Trinity experience will be absolutely unique and we are delighted to have him on our staff.â€
Pratchett, who was awarded a knighthood in 2009, has had his books translated into 38 languages.Â He has sold over 70 million copies.
He has also been very frank and open about the difficulties he's faced after being diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's Disease, making his diagnosis public in December 2007. He has made substantial donations to Alzheimer charities, a BBC documentary about his condition and given a televised lecture on the subject.
