The Spurs Twitter account gets sarky over Gareth Bale background picture drama

Whoever is running the official Spurs Twitter account is clearly getting a bit tired of all the Gareth Bale rumours.

Whoever is running the official Spurs Twitter account is clearly getting a bit tired of all the Gareth Bale rumours.

This is the type of story that simply could not and would not have existed three or four years ago. On Monday, Spurs official Twitter account changed the background picture of its page. Out went Clint Dempsey, who had just moved to Seattle, and a certain Gareth Bale and in came Mousa Dembele and Aaron Lennon.

The Spanish newspaper AS took this to mean that Bale was one step closer to leaving White Hart Lane, a tenuous thing to hang a story on but hey, it’s transfer season. The removal of Bale’s image from a massive NBC poster promoting the Premier League in Times Square was also cited by some as a sign that the Welsh winger was on his way.

Anyway, Spurs took to Twitter last night to clear up the matter, and did so in quite a funny way. After first saying that the NBC billboard had simply finished its run they turned to the Twitter background.

Firstly they addressed Dempsey…

Before covering the Bale aspect with more than a hint of sarcasm.

Guess they are getting a bit tired of the Bale drama too…

Update: The Spurs account just posted this… fair play, they are keeping it up…
