If you, like us, often find the 18th hole rather tricky after an abysmal 17 holes that preceded it, spare a thought for Mark Mihal.

Now we are not suggesting for one moment that Mark had a bad round up to that point, but when you fall 18 feet into a sinkhole on the fairway and have to wait half an hour to get out, that constitutes a difficult round of golf.
Mihal was playing on the Annbriar course in Illinois when he his drive on the final fairway seemed like any normal tee shot. However, the 43 year-old got quite a landing when the ground gave way and had to wait for a grounds-keeper to arrive with a length of rope to get out of the sinkhole.

The club said such an incident has never happened before, and takes ‘getting out of the rough’ to a whole new level.
