There weren’t too many Mos to admire at the Aviva tonight, but Glenn Whelan certainly looked the part. The part of a 1970’s homicide detective.

Ireland got the MONKEANO era off to a winning start with a handy win over a rather hapless Latvian outfit and while some of the Boys in Green gave some eye-catching performances, no-one caught the eye quite like the central midfielder.

While the rugby boys embrace Movember quite like no other sport, their footballing brothers don’t follow suit in quite the same numbers, relatively speaking. So while there will be many in view during tomorrow’s Autumn international, they were few and far between tonight, but they might argue they are more quality than quantity.

Jon Walters came off the bench to show us his effort and while it wasn’t bad, it was blown out of the water by his Stoke team-mate.
