Former host of The Weakest Link, Anne Robinson, has claimed that she was groped by deceased ex-Taoiseach Charles Haughey back in the late 1960s.

In the course of a Guardian interview given by Robinson and her daughter Emma Wilson about sexual harassment in the media industry, Robinson alleged that Haughey groped her during the elections in 1969.

“Looking back, we used to keep lists of men who weren’t safe in taxis, “NST”, and those who were “NSL”, not safe in lifts, they were a bit quicker with their hands than NSTs,” Robinson said.

“I think my best experience was with Charlie Haughey, who was then Ireland’s Minister of Justice (he was actually Minister for Finance). I like to imagine he went to his grave with my bruises on his hands after he tried to grope me during the 1969 Irish elections.”

Robinson and her daughter were commenting in the wake of recent revelations about the late BBC host Jimmy Saville, who is the subject of numerous allegations of child abuse at present.

Despite Robinson’s claims, Haughey’s daughter Eimear Mulhern told The Irish Sun: “I think it’s all absolutely disgusting.”

“My father’s dead six years and I think it’s time he was left alone to rest in peace,” she added.
