The hands in the pockets, the stoic look of disinterest, the absence of boots; Junior B goalkeeping is a class apart.
There’s nothing like a glimpse at the grassroots of a game to make you appreciate the top level stuff. A trip to your local park on a Sunday morning makes the Premier League look an awful lot better. A bit of pitch and putt on a Saturday makes you recognise just how good Rory, Tiger and the rest are later that night on Sky.
But the sight of Junior B footballers in action is a pleasure all of its own. A mixture of all levels, talents and interests, it is the GAA’s very own melting pot and it offers many things you will never see on the big days at Croker, Semple and the likes.
Things like this in fact.
