Tiger Woods has failed to make the cut at the Quail Hollow Championship in North Carolina, only the sixth time the World Number One has missed a cut in his professional career.

Woods endured a horrendous back nine on day two of the event which included three consecutive bogeys and two consecutive double bogeys, leading Woods to finish on a score of 79 for the day, his worst round for seven years and nine over par in total, eight shots off the cut.

Woods was participating in only his second event of the year after taking a five month break from golf following revelations surrounding extra marital affairs in his personal life.

Woods was upset about his early exit at Quail Hollow but insisted he will be ready for the Players’ Championship at Sawgrass next week.

“It (missing the cut) does bother me, no doubt,” he said.

“But at least I get the weekend to watch and see how it’s done, how real players play golf, and hopefully I can piece it together for next week and be ready to go.”

Billy Mayfair currently leads the field at Quail Hollow on eight under par. with Angel Cabrera and Phil Mickelson leading the chasing pack.

Padraig Harrington is eight shots adrift at level par and Rory McIlroy is a further shot behind, having just made the cut at one over par.
