A couple of old, but very familiar, faces have popped up in today’s transfer rumours…

Between Thiago Alcantara, Cesc Fabregas and Wayne ‘angry and confused’ Rooney, the first transfer window Manchester United have had under David Moyes has been high on talk but quite low on action so far.

That trend looks set to continue as two new, juicy names are today linked with the Premier League champions. The Mirror goes big on the news that David Moyes is prepared to splash £60million to get Gareth Bale to Old Trafford.

To be honest, that sounds a bit far-fetched to us considering Spurs hardline stance on keeping the Welsh man but that deal has been rumoured for a while so it was overdue a reheat. Speaking of old transfer rumours, a staple of the summer rumours of 2011, Luka Modric, is back on the radar. Two years ago it was his supposed move to Chelsea from Spurs that was the headline story of the summer.

As we know, he instead went to Real Madrid last summer and now he is being linked with a move back to the Premier League, at Manchester United, by Sky Italia. A fall back move if the Fabregas deal fails, or total nonsense. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Understandably, there’s still lots and lots of Wayne Rooney talk about. Last night both Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho spoke about the player. Jose said Rooney was Chelsea’s only transfer target this summer, and those quotes are in all the papers.

Wenger, in the Sun, says that Arsenal can afford to meet Rooney’s wage demands, which suggests they are still in pursuit too. Jose v Arsene, it’s just like old times.

The Sun also carries quotes by Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, who says the club should step up their chase for Luis Suarez. Might be putting yourself out of a job there Olivier.

The ongoing row over the Newcastle shirt sponsor Wonga and Papiss Cisse’s refusal to wear it could see him leave the club, according to most papers, with the Mirror saying he will definitely be sold.

In other news the Mail reckon Sunderland want to bring in bad haircut and bad tats extraordinaire Raul Meireles from Fenerbache, Napoli have made a move for Gonzalo Higuain (Express) and the Metro report that Real Madrid may make a move for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

Finally, once the bright new hope at Anfield, it looks like Danny Pacheco could be out the door, with Celta Vigo after his signature according to the Mail.
