Liverpool have sold Jonjo Shelvey and are going to snap up Tom Ince, Thiago Silva could be heading to Barca and there’s more Cavani & Thiago news. Again

One man who doesn’t think Wayne Rooney is going to be staying at United this transfer season is former assistant manager Mike Phelan, who told The Sun that he thinks that he has put himself too far “out there” with the fans by trying to leave a second time, and they won’t be happy with him as a result. Andy Mitten of Four Four Two and United We Stand reckons he wants to go to Chelsea, and will hold out for that move, but no matter what happens, it’s beginning to look increasingly unlikely that he can stay at Old Trafford next season.

Jonjo Shelvey has apparently secured a move to another football club. Let that news sink in for a minute, he’s not moving to the UFC, he’s gone to Swansea, according to reports, a team that genuinely plays football. We don’t understand it either, but with an extra £6 million in the bank, Liverpool are laughing.

And apparently they now have the spare cash to hijack (one of the great cliches, and it’s only the third day of the window, brilliant) Cardiff’s move for Tom Ince. A true piece of shrewd business, Liverpool will buy back Ince Jr., having sold him to Blackpool.

Following Shelvey’s example and bewilderingly getting a move to another club is one Gareth Barry apparently, who has been linked with Arsenal according to The Sun. We’re not too sure about that one either, but it’s officially silly season, and if Jonjo can get a move, well then anything can happen.

Anyway, now on to the news about Edinson Cavani. Money, lots of it, football clubs, PSG, Chelsea. You can fill in the blanks by now, but just in case, apparently they need to up their offer to £53 million for him to beat PSG to the punch, and we all know their record of spending huge on strikers has been flawless so far.

Speaking of United, there’s more news about Thiago. Yeah, we’re bored with this story now too. Marca are saying he might be joining them on Friday, we’ll see if that happens.

Barcelona will use the Thiago money to buy a defender, and are apparently having secret meetings with Thiago Silva according to the Spanish press. They have seemingly offered PSG around €32 million for the defender, who looked on top form at the Confederations Cup. However, PSG splashed out €10 million more than that on him, they might need to up their offer a bit.

Spainsea (that’s what we’re calling Swansea now, we’re so smart) have bought another Spaniard, this time Alejandro Pozuelo from Real Betis. That makes seven lads from Spain who’ve all been on the plane, or maybe even taken the train, to eh…Wales.

Roberto Martinez is apparently looking to bring in some reinforcements from his old club to Everton, and is expected to get Arouna Kone for around £5 million (Daily Express) and is apparently looking for Nathan Dyer of Swansea too (The Sun).

On the Irish front, Birmingham are looking to sign Paddy McCourt after leaving Celtic, but also has an offer on the table from MLS outfit the San Jose Earthquakes. We’d be happy to see his silky skills back on the pitch at either of those teams, and if we were him we’d go to California. We suspect the weather is better there than in Birmingham.
