Ireland play Wales in Cardiff on August 14, and here’s the squad Giovanni Trapattoni has named today.

It’s hard to think about international football as we bask in the glorious summer and the GAA Championship but there is not too long to wait until Ireland’s first friendly of the 2013/14 season.

We travel to Cardiff to play Wales on August 14 and today Giovanni Trapattoni named his 26-man squad for the game that will set us up for the massive World Cup qualifiers we face in September.

The squad doesn’t have too many surprises. Robbie Keane sits this one out, we assume after the LA Galaxy pulled rank this time. Stephen Quinn is in again, as is David Meyler, but aside from that all the names we have come to recognise from previous squads are present and correct.

Richard Dunne, newly signed by QPR, is another absentee and Darron Gibson remains out, though he did have an op this summer, while Anthony Pilkington gets another shot at finally winning his first cap.

Squad: Forde, Westwood, Randolph, O’Shea, St Ledger, Wilson, Coleman, Kelly, O’Dea, Clark, McShane, Whelan, McCarthy, Green, Hendrick, McGeady, Pilkington, McClean, Brady, Meyler, Quinn, Hoolahan, Long, Sammon, Walters, Cox
