Republic coach Trapattoni believes there are “no doubts” in compatriot Fabio Capello’s willingness to fill the vacant Inter Milan managerial role.

Capello’s current England tenure runs until 2012 but includes a release clause following this summer’s World Cup – a prime opportunity for the Nerazzurri’s main target to continue the success Jose Mourinho has achieved.

Trap told Italian’s TV’s “GR Parlamento” show: “Inter’s next coach? At this time, Capello is the number one candidate.

“There’s no doubt about his wish but it depends on the contract”

Conflicting reports in the UK today are claiming Capello has been holding “positive” talks with Sir David Richards, president of Club England.

Trapattoni said: “I think it will depend on his contract but (Inter President Massimo) Moratti, even in the past had the possibility to sign him.

“Knowing Fabio, he is very focused but his situation is very difficult and he is followed by everyone. Ahead of a World Cup, a false step could create problems for him.”

Trappatoni coached Inter from 1986-91, winning one Serie A and UEFA Cup title in the process. Capello has managed AC Milan, Juventus and Roma, though never the Nerazzurri.
