Two-goal Tommy shines on Sydney Swans debut

Two goals and an impressive overall performance in a 100+ points victory; it wasn’t a bad way for Tommy Walsh to get his Sydney Swans career up and running this morning.

Two goals and an impressive overall performance in a 100+ points victory; it wasn’t a bad way for Tommy Walsh to get his Sydney Swans career up and running this morning.

The former Kerry forward and Dolph Lundgren lookalike had endured something of a slow-burning AFL career before his debut for the Swans, but could have a big future ahead after a brilliant performance as Sydney trashed Melbourne Demons 138-37 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Walsh scored two goals for the hosts, the first coming in the second quarter when, according to the match report on the AFL website, Walsh “nearly kicked the ball out of the stadium to get off the mark in his first AFL game”.

Walsh added another later on and was named as one of the Swans’ best overall performers on the night; the person behind the Swans’ Twitter feed certainly seemed to be impressed.

Tommy is obviously something of a good luck charm for the Swans. Not only did the victory catapult them into the top four in the AFL standings, but it was their highest score in four seasons and the first time they have recorded a 100+ point victory in six years.

Somehow we don’t think it’s the last we’ll be hearing of Walsh’s exploits Down Under.
