Have you finished putting up the shelves? Have you finally got around to fixing the toilet? If you haven’t, then you’re not alone…

There’s nothing quite like building something with your very own hands. That’s why us blokes love doing the DIY around the house. However, a new survey conducted by RatedPeople.com, the online trade recommendation service, found that around two-thirds of people are currently living with unfinished DIY projects.

The survey looked at over 3,200 families and the results highlighted just how many people embark on DIY projects without putting a bit of thought in first.

According to the results, the most common unfinished projects can be found in kitchens and bathrooms, and most have to do with unfinished cabinets or poorly finished paint jobs.

But why are we more inclined to leave a project rather than finish it? Apparently, the highest ranked excuses include lack of time, a change in finances, lack of skills or disputes with neighbours over their plans.

Surprisingly, most householders took around six months to fix the problem, however, it took 16 per cent more than three years to finally finish the DIY. You might want to tell that to your missus if she’s been nagging at you to fix something for the past two years… it could be worse, like.
