US cops making arrests after ‘gallon smashing’ goes viral

You may remember a few months back we highlighted an unusual craze sweeping America called ‘gallon smashing’. Well it’s gotten a little out of hand.

Some youths Stateside were getting their kicks by going into a supermarket, pouring copious amounts of any drink - often milk - onto the floor and then launching themselves into the spillage to make it look like an accident.

The whole thing became a bit of a YouTube sensation – as well as one hell of a mess for supermarkets – but police in America have begun making arrests after watching footage online.

Cops in Newton, New Jersey, arrested one 19-year-old yesterday and Sergeant Michael Monaco explained how they caught him.

“He had two gallons of milk in his hands and threw them on the ground,” he said.

“He got up and walked away like nothing happened while his friends were videotaping him on his cellphone.”

As has been pointed out already, there is no point crying over spilled milk. Unless you are that 19 year-old in police custody in New Jersey perhaps.

It has caught on across the pond too and this UK clip has gathered close on one million views and shows the craze performed at its very best.

Shopkeepers of Centra, Spar, Tesco and everywhere else, ye have been forewarned.
